The Comrades must now wait to see whether Binfield win their last league game of the season against North Greenford United. If so, they will take the title, while any other result will mean Berko are crowned champions as they have a two-point lead at the top of the table.

Newport Pagnell took an early lead with a good shot past Luke Midwinter after a mix-up between the centre-backs left a forward clear on goal.

Jay Caines had the pick of Berko’s chances but his shots went across the face of the goal, while the Comrades hit the metalwork in each half – once when Caines was offside and the other directly from a King corner.

Both sides had strong penalty appeals turned down; first when Jack Cook’s handball was ruled to be accidental in the first half, and at the other end when Caines was bundled over.

Berko finished the game with nine men after two Comrades were sent off for speaking out of turn as their frustration boiled over.
