Allinson thrilled as Tudors regain winning feeling with last-gasp goal

Lee Allinson was a happy man after seeing his Hemel Hempstead Town side return to winning ways in dramatic fashion last weekend.

The 1-0 home success over Tonbridge Angels came thanks to Darion Dowrich’s volley with virtually the last kick of the game, and was a first victory in three outings for the Tudors after two defeats which had also seen them fail to score.

So the win, a goal and a clean sheet were all huge ticks in boxes for Allinson whose side ended the weekend in sixth place in the National League South.

He told the club’s media: “It was unbelievable to be honest because the boys are trying so hard but look like we’re playing with such a nervous energy, and we said to them in training and at half-time about letting the shackles off, what’s the worst that can happen?

"We've gone a bit more free-flowing in the second-half having had to change shape in the first-half as it wasn’t quite working for us, but we’ve done everything we could do bar put the ball in the back of the net until the 96th minute when Darion has smashed one home which was a great feeling because we were on the other end of that on Monday.

"Fair play to Tonbridge who have improved massively in my opinion since we played them at their place. I think they’re a good side and are really well-organised and difficult to break down.

"But the endeavour and the hard work and desire got us over the line. Are we playing where I think we can get to? No, I think there’s so much more to come and we will get there, but it’s a huge relief to get an important three points.

"I feel like the performance on Monday warranted that winner in the end.”

After a clear midweek, Hemel return to action on Saturday with a trip to Farnborough Town, who sit just above the relegation zone, before they then welcome bottom side Chippenham Town next Tuesday night.
