Allinson: It was a brilliant three points

Lee Allinson was again a happy man after seeing his Hemel Hempstead Town side make it five wins in a row last weekend.

The 1-0 win at Hornchurch came thanks to Remaye Campbell’s goal and put Hemel third in the table ahead of the trip to Bath City on Tuesday night (24th) which was played after this week’s Gazette went to press.

And Allinson told the club’s media that it was a hard-earned three points.

He said: “It was a really good win. We had to make some enforced changes before the game but knew that Hornchurch would play direct and put it in behind us and try and stick it on us but I thought to a man again the boys were fantastic from back to front.

"I thought it was a brilliant performance and a brilliant win and we could have gone on and got one or two more towards the end. It’s never one for the purist when you come here because they’re good at what they do, but we had to stand up to that. ”They’re a team that suffocate the opposition and in the end teams fold and give in, but we didn’t do that. We stood up, were counted and came away with a brilliant three points.

"I think every player was immense because it wasn’t just one side of the game that we had to do well, we had to work hard, head, kick, tackle, pass, shoot and I thought we’ve done that.

"The goal we scored was an unbelievable finish from Rem but all round how we’ve defended our box was excellent. They came to us a few months ago and battered us.

"What we must do now is keep our feet on the floor. Nothing’s done, we are really short of bodies and we may need to look at what we can bring in defensively and maybe one more attacker because we get one chance at this, it’s not an every season occurrence, so we’ve got to really sit down and look at what we may need to see us through.”

we seriously need to look at what we can bring in defensively and maybe one more attacker because we we hit one chart to

2:10

2 minutes, 10 seconds

this. you know, this is not every every season occurrence, you know, so we've got to really sit down and have a look at what we may need to to see us through

2:18

with the running, but we've got a lot of hard games coming up. So, nothing's achieved, nothing's done. It's one more uh win and we and we tick it off and we move forward. It's as simple as that.

2:28

As you just mentioned, a great finish for Rome today and lots of positivity um towards him from the fans as well. Do

2:35

2 minutes, 35 seconds

you think he's found his feet as a tutor now?

2:37

2 minutes, 37 seconds

I said everyone would fall in love with him, didn't I? You know, we worked it tirelessly to get Rome to the football club. I watched him a couple of times. I

2:45

2 minutes, 45 seconds

loved him when he played against us and and as I said, he was coming in to play with Mills. We go back to the mill situation, but that's how it was.

2:52

2 minutes, 52 seconds

Unfortunately, we lost one. We brought him in and we're I I believe we're a different team. I thought he was unbelievable today. Everything you want

2:59

2 minutes, 59 seconds

in your center forward. Head in, hold up, play, great finish, and and actually Rome is a very very good finisher. Um, I

3:06

3 minutes, 6 seconds

know his record at Heraford didn't really show that, but you put him in front of goal, he he sticks his chances away. And, um, he's getting fit. You

3:14

3 minutes, 14 seconds

know, he had probably six weeks out before he come to us. So, he's getting fit now. He's getting stronger. He's getting in better shape. Um, and I just

3:22

3 minutes, 22 seconds

think that we are a better team for having Re Campbell in my opinion.

3:27

3 minutes, 27 seconds

And lastly, uh, we know we're we've got a tough run of it coming up. Um, what does it mean to you that the boys have put in u so much hard work to get us sitting at third as we go into that?

3:38

3 minutes, 38 seconds

I mean, listen, we um yeah, we've done great. You know, it was u we we've done really really well. We mustn't get

3:46

3 minutes, 46 seconds

carried away. I think that's really important. We must keep both feet on the floor. We're enjoying the ride because we should never be in this position, but we are now. We got to enjoy it. And as I said to the boys, there's no pressure.

3:56

3 minutes, 56 seconds

what they have to do as players now and a management team. They have to live and breathe the next six weeks. There's going to be hiccups along the way. It's going to be good performances. There's

4:04

4 minutes, 4 seconds

going to be poor performances, but we have to stick together as a group and as a as a football club, ride the storms when they come, enjoy the good moments,

4:12

4 minutes, 12 seconds

and hopefully that'll be enough to take us into the playoffs. But, as I say, I'm I've been in football way way too long to get carried away, you know, until,

4:20

4 minutes, 20 seconds

you know, we we get enough points on the board to say we're actually in there.

4:23

4 minutes, 23 seconds

It's just it's just another game. And we go on to Tuesday night. As I said to the players in there, they've really got to look after themselves now. You know, as

4:30

4 minutes, 30 seconds

I said, we are really short. We got injuries. Um, you know, Joe is not as as close as we'd like him to be. Jack

4:38

4 minutes, 38 seconds

Bateson's still a little bit away. You know, we we got positive news with them the other day, but it's still not, you know, still not where we need him to be.

4:46

4 minutes, 46 seconds

So, as I say, we're short now. Kyler Jay's injured. Charlie Ryan's carrying a calf injury. We've got no cover at center halves. Um, so we really got to

4:54

4 minutes, 54 seconds

consider what we do now. You know, if we're going to have a go at this, we might as well have a go, you know,

4:58

4 minutes, 58 seconds

trying. Um, because if we don't and we go into that runner period and we and we fall short, I think we'll kick ourselvesT

Following the trip to Bath, Hemel next face a huge game at home to leaders Dorking Wanderers on Saturday, before a trip to Weston-super-Mare next Tuesday night.
