Dacorum Bowls round-up: Including a Kitcheners trophy quadruple for jubilant Jenkins

Meanwhile, Kitcheners travelled to Aston Clinton and won 77-72 as highest rink went to Jake Murray, Colin Starling, Dave Neale and Daphnie Gregory.

Potten End youngster Jack Bunting won both the U18 and U25 competitions at the Watford & District mens finals

Tring will host the Watford & District Ladies’ Finals Day on Friday, with play commencing at 10am.

Everybody is welcome to watch the matches, and refreshments will be available.

Meanwhile, Tring had mixed fortunes in the W&D Men’s Finals. Steve Tanner comfortably won the Officers Singles, but in a much tighter affair Pete Routley and David Holloway narrowly lost in the Men’s Pairs.

Tring ladies entertained Aylesbury and won a close match 35-27, while the annual Australian Pairs competition was won by David Chatterley and Brian Livesey on count-back.

Kevin Clarke receives his third trophy at Berkhamsteds Finals Weekend having won the Mens Singles, Mens Pairs and Open Handicap Singles competitions

Tring hold their club finals this weekend and all are welcome to watch what should be some very competitive encounters.

> Berkhamsted

The main event for Berkhamsted Bowls Club was the finals weekend for all of their club competitions.

The weekend was very well supported by members, and the glorious weather on Sunday helped the occasion.

In two sponsored competitions, the Highland Trophy was won by Brian Baker and The Pedlow Trophy – which was instigated by Mary Pedlow of Dacorum Borough Council when she retired some years ago – was won by Brian Smith and Maurice Primo. This is played as an Australian Pairs Competition.

Elsewhere, Berkhamsted competed in the Chess Vale Club annual Gala and emerged as outright winners by three shots against many other teams from the area. The team consisted of Marion Maynard, Janet Jackson, Frank Cutting and Ken Maynard.

> Potten End

The Watford & District men’s finals proved to be a tremendous day for Potten End youngster Jack Bunting.

Jack, 12, overwhelmed the opposition in both the U18 and U25 competitions, with wins of 21 shots to 3 and 21-7, respectively.

Meanwhile, Potten End finished their Dacorum Shield matches with a fine win at Bovingdon by four points to one to move top of the league. The final result depends on other clubs’ remaining matches.

In a busy week of friendlies the club was not so successful, winning only one of four matches. The one win came in the match against Chessvale (76-64) largely due to the top rink of Mick Young, Doreen Pike, Alan Howling and Tony Howard.

The ladies’ match at Hemel Hempstead resulted in a heavy defeat by 73 shots to 43, while a closely fought match at Harperbury saw Potten End edged out by 92 shots to 98. Top rink went to Lesley Wilson, Eddie Clark, Dave Gomm and Keith Martindale.

The visit to Barton le Clay saw the home side comfortably win by 126 shots to 89. Top rink went to Alan Clements, Kelsey Dukony, Sheila Howling and Alan Howling.

> Hemel Hempstead

The Hemel Hempstead men enjoyed success at the St Albans & District finals day as they came away with two trophies.

A very close match in the Jones Cup saw Hemel overcome Townsend 41-39, while captain Ken Emmins led his team to a comfortable 44-34 victory over Harperbury in the Triples League Trophy.

Emmins said after collecting the silverware: “Today’s wins have a crowned a tremendous season for the club.”

Sunday saw the sun and supporters come out to Gadebridge Park for the finals of the club competitions.

Brian Smith became the Men’s Champion for an incredible 12th time. In the other men’s competitions, Don Connors won the Handicap Singles and Fixed Jack, while the Pairs Champions are Bill Salmon and Jim Norman.

The Ladies’ Champion is Sheila Pell as the final was conceded by the unlucky Norma Brown who was injured the previous week.

In the other ladies’ competitions, Maggie Moore won the Handicap Singles and partnered Mary Kinzlemann to become the Pairs Champions. Pauline Howell won the Three-Wood Singles and Val Nash the Fixed Jack.

In the competitions open to both men and ladies, Ken Lowe triumphed in the Singles. Other winners were Alan Mumford and Grace Salmon (Pairs), Roger Wakefield and Mark Woodcock (Australian Pairs) and Danny Johnson (Non-Winners).
