Berkhamsted dig deep to down high-flying Shefford and Sandy

On a weekend where the club had some tough challenges, the Berkhamsted men’s first team provided the result of the season so far with a win over previously unbeaten Shefford and Sandy.

The tight 1-0 win was a real battle of wills, but Berko kept things tight at the back and Pete Allam bagged the one goal required to secure the points.

Meanwhile, for the second week running the men’s second team provided the biggest win across the club.

A dominant display saw Berko run out 4-1 victors against Luton, with goals coming from Roger Payton (2), Paul Whitby and man of the match Thomas Moorhouse.

Elsewhere, the men’s third XI had a hard fought 1-1 draw against Harpenden.

It wasn’t their best performance so the team felt disappointed with the result, although Will Hanwell managed to score the equalising goal.

The men’s fourth team, meanwhile, came up against top of the table Hertford.

In a tough game, the high flying opposition certainly knew they had been in a proper match but they still managed to run out 2-0 winners.

The men’s fifths played the late game away against St Albans and they were unfortunate to not get more out of the clash as they were beaten 4-1.

Elsewhere, the ladies’ third XI were the much stronger team in their game against Welwyn.

They won 2-0 courtesy of a brace from Liz Holderness, and perhaps could have won by a bigger margin.

The ladies’ seconds keep their unbeaten start to the season going, however they drew for the second week in succession to drop another two points in their challenge for promotion.

A 0-0 stalemate against Enigma was a frustrating result.

Meanwhile, the ladies’ first team came unstuck against top of the table Aylesbury with a tight 2-0 defeat.

The men’s thirds and ladies’ seconds stay at the top of their respective tables, while the men’s firsts are making a charge and the men’s seconds are zooming up the league after two strong wins over half-term.
