The course is called Learn to Run and promises that non-runners who attend will be able to run 5km in time for summer.

A total of 16 people started the course last Monday and there will be 12 weekly sessions and ‘homework’ tasks.

The sessions are being led by Harriers men’s captain Edward Price and eight other members who have been on a running leadership course.

Each session includes tips, running technique drills, and form and run to walk sections which will build beginners up to 5km without stopping.

Andy Newing, Harriers chairman said: “As a club we have always tried to cater for runners of all abilities and now we can cater for non-runners who want to learn to run, too.”

He added: “We hope some of the course participants will join the club at the end of the 12 weeks, which will provide us with a great intermediate group for new members to join.”

The Harriers plan to run another Learn to Run course in the Autumn. Please email [email protected] to resister your interest.
