A golden day for unstoppable Bury at Herts championships

The 27 Bury representatives all bagged medals – nine golds, six silvers and 12 bronzes.

It was an impressive display from the Bury Judokas, who have hit form at exactly the right time, with the British Nationals fast approaching.

The Primaries (U10s) opened proceedings for the club in the morning with gold medal wins from David Kiraly and Stefan Kiraly.

Silver medals went to Sam Lewis, Koby Duberry, Cain Denham and Niall Curran, with bronzes won by Tudor Rochie, Rico Rhiney, Guillaume Beauduin, Thomas Lewis and Logan Read.

With such fine performances taking place during the morning session, the juniors weighed in hoping for continued success in the afternoon – and despite hard opposition they managed to add another 16 medals.

Maddie McGuire and Eloise McGuinness opened the medal tally for the junior girls, with Tori O’Connor achieving bronze.

The competition continued with the primary boys, and the medals followed quickly with Eliott Davies, Donavan Allen, Haydn Williams and Charlie Hartnail becoming Hertfordshire champions.

Silver medals went to Fardeen Butt and Liam Trill-Green, with bronzes won by Trai-Jan Roche, Conal Moss, Ralph Williams, Jayden Duberry, Dylan Moss and Kai Folds.

Adam Hardacre won gold in the senior men’s category.

Bury’s senior club coach Roy Smith said: “This was valuable experience which will help with further development.

“Hopefully these events have been a good warm-up for the next event, The British Judo Council Closed Nationals on November 23 in Kettering.”
