Here's all you need to know about why the show's being honoured, what will be on the stamps and where to buy.

Why has Royal Mail released new Only Fools and Horses stamps?

The Royal Mail often marks notable anniversaries and events in British history by issuing sets of special stamps.

Last year it issued stamps for the planned release of the new James Bond film and a celebration of the United Kingdom.

Star Trek characters, National Parks and Elton John are just an example of some of the other aspects of British culture the Royal Mail has commemorated.

This year is the turn of one of the country's most watched sitcoms, as Only Fools and Horses (OFAH) turns 40 years old.

What is Only Fools and Horses about?

The BBC show, written by John Sullivan, first aired in 1981 and featured the escapades of the Trotters in Peckham, London.

It follows the life and times of market trader Del Boy, played by Sir David Jason, and his younger brother Rodney (Nicholas Lyndhurst).

OFAH ran for seven regular series and was followed by sporadic Christmas specials until the show ended in 2003.

At its peak, the show attracted more than 20 million viewers per episode in the mid-1990s.

What will be on the Only Fools and Horses stamps issued by Royal Mail?

In celebrating 40 years of the classic British sitcom, the Royal Mail's 12 stamps all reference the hit comedy series.

Eight of the stamps depict scenes and one-liners from the sitcom and the other four show the main Trotter characters.

They are Del Boy, Rodney, Grandad and Uncle Albert - each pictured next to one of their memorable catchphrases.

Del's reads: "This time next year, we'll be millionaires!"

“Cosmic!” remarks Rodney’s stamp.

Grandad’s stamp says: “I’ve always wanted to go to Benidorm. Where is it?”

And Uncle Albert’s reads: “During the war…”

Where can I buy 40th anniversary Only Fools and Horses stamps?

The stamps are available to pre-order from the Royal Mail website in a variety of sets.

The stamps and collectibles, which includes a signed frame by Sir David Jason, were released on 16 February 2021.

“The superb writing, comic one-liners and the warmth and idiosyncrasies of its characters made Only Fools And Horses one of the most loved TV comedies of all time,” said Philip Parker, stamp strategy manager at Royal Mail.

“We celebrate 40 years of the Trotters’ wheeling and dealing, with new stamps revisiting some of the show’s classic moments.”
