The professions of teaching and retail are said to be among the ‘best’ for health and wellbeing, according to new research.

But do you agree?

Professional Wellbeing Index

The Professional Wellbeing Index has revealed the best professions for overall wellbeing, analysing factors which influence lifestyle, health and mental wellness.

To create their Professional Wellbeing Index, Silver Swan Recruitment looked at the following factors:

Annual SalaryWorking HoursChance of AutomationSafetyMental HealthTime Spent OutdoorsPhysical ActivityEducation NeededTime PressureConsequence of DecisionsFreedom to Make Decisions

This new research investigated which aspects of work impact most on your overall wellbeing, and which jobs are best for your overall health and happiness,

The research took into account practical benefits of the job, weighed against factors which affect your overall health and wellbeing, such as stress levels, time spent outdoors and how sedentary the job is.

Teaching takes the top spot

Teaching has been ranked in first place, with the research explaining that this is due to good working hours, low chance of automation, high levels of autonomy, and exposure to fresh air and physical activity during a regular working week.

Taking second place is personal training. Personal trainers are extremely active on a day to day basis, with the study saying that they have plenty of freedom on the job.

Personal trainers are also able to keep fit while working, which research found is a major challenge for office-based jobs, as people are mostly sedentary all day, which is not good for physical or mental health.

The study also found that like with teachers, personal trainers have a very low risk of their jobs becoming automated, at just 9 per cent, with research explaining that this profession has job security and don’t need to worry about this in the future.
