The brightly coloured team were joined by Mayor of Dacorum Roger Taylor and Hemel Hempstead MP Mike Penning to raise awareness of homelessness.

Dacorum Emergency Night Shelter (DENS) is hosting a series of events over the next two weeks to highlight the issue.

On Saturday, the charity was joined by other good causes that help people who find themselves with nowhere to live.

Dacorum Rend Aid hosted a Farmers’ Market in the Marlowes Shopping Centre and Herts Young Homeless Group gave out leaflets in Hemel Hempstead’s town centre.

DENS hosted a cake stall and second-hand books were for sale at the bandstand in Marlowes. A clown was also on hand to entertain young shoppers.

Jenny Mass from the charity said: “We had a lot of people approach us who were interested in volunteering with DENS.

“We were able to talk to people a bit more about what we are doing, who we are helping and why.”

The event raised around £450 for DENS.

As part of the fortnight, the good cause is holding a sponsored walk, which sets off from the Red Lion in Nash Mills, Hemel Hempstead at 10am on Saturday. Walkers can cover three, five or 10 miles. To sign up call Jenny on 01442 262274 or visit www.dens.org.uk
