Storm Alex causes flash flooding in Hemel Hempstead

Hemel Hempstead was hit by flash floods at the weekend as Storm Alex battered the county.

Many people woke up to floods on Saturday morning, and some of our readers sent in pictures of flooding in Old Town and Gadebridge Park.

The Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for the South East on Friday and Saturday.

Dacorum Police attended a number of incidents yesterday morning (Sunday) along with Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue as a result of the heavy rain and standing water.

Several vehicles had lost control on local roads and one vehicle became stranded on a flooded road.

Police are reminding people to take care and slow down and not attempt to drive through a flood if you can not determine the depth of the water.

Jonathan Culverhouse sent in a photo of seagulls enjoying the flooded Gadebridge Park in Hemel Hempstead on Saturday.

On Twitter, Berkhamsted Fire On-Call, @BerkhamstedFire, tweeted: "@BerkhamstedFire @tring_fire helping the residents in Long Marston. Over 6 hours pumping 100,000 litres per hour."

Quentin Halfyard sent in a picture of Old Town reflected in the floods. He said: "The last time the park was flooded to this extent was over 20 years ago when my kids went canoeing in the flooded playground, very close to this spot."
