Village pub on the pond is brought into the 21st century with refurbishment

The eight en-suite guest rooms upstairs at Aldbury’s Greyhound Inn have been overhauled for the first time in 20 years and the pub’s windows have been replaced.

Landlord of 11 years Tim O’Gorman, who also runs the nearby Valiant Trooper pub, said: “We are bringing the Greyhound into the 21st century whilst retaining the heritage.”

The pub’s windows have been replaced like for like under the overhaul.

Tim said: “It looks a lot cleaner, tidier and fresher.”

The Stocks Road pub - a former coaching Inn - overlooks Aldbury’s picturesque pond and ancient stocks. It is popular with walkers and those visiting on business trips.

Landlord Tim will be celebrating 36 years of running the village’s other pub - The Valiant Trooper - this Christmas. The Trooper Road pub is comprised of 17th century cottages that have served as alehouses for many centuries and dates back to 1752, when it was left in the will of John Barnes.
