Village pub has a smashing time despite a shortage of pianos

The Crown Inn in Tingewick was still able to raise money for Willen Hospice despite a shortage of ‘victims’ for this year’s charity piano smash.

Two teams joined forces to destroy a single piano and reduce it to pieces small enough to pass through a small hole in a metal plate, raising £100 for Willen Hospice in the process.

Participants had to consume large jugs of beer to make the feat even more challenging.

Crown Inn landlady Jane Armstrong said: “It was a really good day.

“They pushed the piano along Main Street to the Crown Inn car park, where they smashed it up and put the pieces through a small hole.

“Normally we have two or three pianos, but it was still very good.

“We had a hog roast, and a bouncy castle and face painting for the children.”

The Crown Inn’s annual August bank holiday piano smash has been a fixture in Tingewick for many years.
