UPDATED: Fly-tipper took £40 to dump friend’s rubbish on outstanding beauty site

Anthony Lee, 39, of Dunstable Road in Tilsworth, dumped a big green plastic chair, tins, buckets, a lawn mower, a plastic table, chairs and numerous black bags of rubbish in Potten End, Berkhamsted.

But environmental enforcement officers found evidence from the waste linking it to a Dunstable address.

The fly-tipping was traced to him after a woman admitted paying Lee £40 to dispose of her waste.

She provided his details when she found out he had not disposed of the rubbish legally.

Lee pleaded guilty to the offence at St Albans Magistrates’ Court last week and was fined a total of £1,042.81.

He first denied dumping the waste at the site of outstanding beauty in May 2013 before pleading guilty last week.

Neil Harden, portfolio holder for residents and regulatory services said Dacorum Borough Council has a ‘zero tolerance approach’ to fly tipping.

He said: “This successful prosecution shows our commitment to keeping our borough clean from nuisance environmental crime.

“We hope this prosecution and the sentence imposed sends out a strong message to people illegally dumping waste.”

The council is urging people to check that anyone removing waste on their behalf has a waste carriers licence.
