Tring Park student narrowly misses out on £250k prize in TV talent contest

Kaine Ward, 15, made it to the final of the Sky1 HD programme and performed live to win the nation’s votes on Friday night.

But the public instead voted for street dance duo Duplic8 – comprising Tobias Mead, 26, and 13-year-old Jak Tuite-Leach.

Writing on the social networking website Twitter before the vote, Kaine said: “I’m ecstatic whatever the outcome, I mean c’mon, standing ovation from all three judges!! You can’t get better that.”

Kaine was mentored by former Pussycat Doll Kimberly Wyatt. But he also wowed her fellow judges Diversity street dance star Ashley Banjo, actor and tap dancer Adam Garcia and show host Davina McCall.

After failing to win the competition, Kaine said: “Life goes on.”

Kaine has already achieved success as a dancer, having starred as Billy Elliot at the Victoria Palace Theatre in London from 2011 to 2013.

He performed in Swan Lake at the Royal Albert Hall in 2010 and 2013 and in The Nutcracker at the London Coliseum in 2010 with the English National Ballet.

Kaine has been dancing since he was two and hopes that through his passion he can help encourage other boys to get into dancing.

He said: “My mum thinks I am a perfectionist.”

He won a scholarship to Tring Park School for the Performing Arts five years ago.

His mum Christie, who is an emergency medical technician for the East of England Ambulance Service, had urged the nation to back Kaine.

She said: “He works so hard and is amazingly dedicated. We are so proud of all he has already achieved.”
