Tring and Berkhamsted MP gets new government position

South West Hertfordshire MP David Gauke has been appointed chief secretary to the treasury in Theresa May's new government.

This is the third Treasury brief that Mr Gauke has held since the Conservative Party came to power in 2010, as he previously served as exchequer secretary to the treasury and then as financial secretary to the treasury.

His role is the second most senior in the Treasury, although it does not carry full cabinet status.

Mr Gauke’s office was not available for comment.
