Showcase brings new life to parish meetings

A council brainwave has helped transform its annual meetings from boring affairs with low turnout into a vibrant community showcase.

Abbots Langley Parish Council chairman Keith Williams aimed to increase numbers by inviting community groups to set up stalls at Wednesday’s event.

Cllr Williams said: “It was something which people could benefit from, to get the community talking to each other.”

Financial grants and civic awards were also presented.

Outstanding individual achievement winner Ron Smith of Evergreen FC said: “I was so surprised to win. I am pleased with the recognition we have received, it is more important than money.”
