Employability days at Dacorum schools

Hemel Hempstead and Longdean Schools are running employability days for their pupils.

Students get help with CV writing, application forms and interview techniques.

The organisers are looking for 30 people from a variety of business experiences to help on May 7 at Longdean school and June 29 and 30 at Hemel Hempstead School - contact [email protected].

New library facilities at Hemel Hempstead school

Sixth form students now have a dedicated study area thanks to the new library at Hemel Hempstead School.

The refurbishments meant the library moved to a bigger location right in the centre of the school, providing the pupils with a light, airy and spacious Library facility. The Library is a very popular, well used area of the school and students have described the new Library as “awesome”.

The official opening of the new Library introduces the ‘Book Bench’. Students were set the task of designing a book bench illustrating the works of a particular author or celebrating a particular book. Year 11 student Charis Dussek was the winner.

JFK pupils in District semi-final youth speak competition

Pupils from John F Kennedy Catholic School took part in the Rotary Club Youth Speaks Competition last year and will now appear in the District Semi-Finals in February.

Three teams from Years 9, 11 and 12 took part in the event on November 18, with topics ranging from the need for parenting classes, the serious world of phobias and how social media has had a positive impact upon our lives.

The Year 9 team were victorious in the Intermediate Category, whilst the Year 12 team won the Senior Category. All three teams were praised for their interesting talks and ability to speak in public.

Longdean psychology trip to London Museums

Psychology pupils from Longdean School rounded off last term by visiting the Natural History Museum and the Science Museum in London.

GCSE students visited two exhibitions, ‘Who Am I’ and ‘Human Biology Gallery’.

The exhibitions contained educational displays for the psychology pupils, as well as Longdeans Child Development class.

Free activities for a year with Sponsored Child

KallieKids sponsors 85 people across the nation from all walks of life to apply for a sponsored child position

Through the scheme, kids are invited to apply to take part in a range of activities for free for a year.

There are two places available in Berkhamsted. The activities they can do range from swimming, football to extra tuition and music lessons.

Closing date for applications is February 20 and winners will be announced at the end of March.

Kings Langley Primary School maintains ‘good’ status

OFSTED rewarded the primary school good in every aspect of the scoring system.

Throughout all areas of the inspection, including leadership and management, quality of teaching, and behaviour and safety of pupils, the school achieved the second highest award.

The results were published in the new year after an inspection took place last term.

Ashlyns School flushed with success

The new student toilets at Ashlyns School has won a national “Loo of the Year” Award.

The price means the school has the best school toilets in the country.

The winning facilities were designed using suggestions from students, who were obviously on a roll.

Specsavers donate hi-vis vests to Bishop Wood School

The school in Tring have received more than 100 high-visibility vests from the local specsavers.

The donation is to make sure children remain visible to drivers during the darker months.

Store director, Bindi Shah says: “We want to promote the importance of road safety during winter and make sure that school children are safe at night.

“We hope our donation will help keep parents’ minds at ease when they’re escorting their children to and from school and while their children are out and about with the school on trips.”
