Polly makes publishing history by publishing book direct from sales
Northchurch-based mother-of-two Polly Walker had to secure 250 sales of her children’s story – Worm, Slug, Maggot and Leech, before publishing concept Britain’s Next Bestseller would print it.
The company, founded by Murielle Maupoint of Little Gaddesden, aims to give popular authors a chance to make it big without being held back by the whims of publishers.

“Some of the world’s best loved books nearly didn’t make it to our shelves. JK Rowling was advised by an editor to get a day job since she had little chance of making money in children’s books.
“Dan Brown was rejected by publishers because his book was so badly written.”
Polly’s £7.99 story was the first to reach the target set by Britain’s Next Bestseller, and now it has been published.

Miss Stick Insect helps the creatures achieve what they think will be a marvellous make over but they soon realise their new-found beauty has come with some catastrophic consequences.
The quartet learn that being beautiful has not made their lives complete and they are faced with a difficult choice.
Polly, who has two young daughters, is a qualified primary school teacher who has wide experience of working with pupils who have special educational needs.

“As a new author it’s fantastic to be part of an innovative publishing campaign that is empowering authors and readers.
“This route from manuscript to publishing deal is a dynamic and attainable one which allows the author to take ownership of the process.
“Empowering the reader to take such a decisive role is also a hugely positive step.”
