£500k makeover planned at Hemel Hempstead Leisure Centre upgrading sports pitches
A series of upgrades are planned to revamp the outdoor facilities in Hemel Hempstead Leisure Centre.
Dacorum Borough Council announced that existing pitches will be refurbished at the sports site. Two multi-use games areas (MUGAs) have been chosen for the revamp which will cost around £500,000.
MUGAs are combined sports pitches and courts that can be used for a number of different activities. Among the planned upgrades are: a new artificial grass surface for a five aside football pitch, artificial textile surface upgrades designed for tennis, netball, hockey 5s and five a side football, and new fencing and upgraded lighting at the adjoined sites.
These pitches will be available to the public outside of school hours and over the weekends during term time.

Councillor Adrian England said: “These refurbished sports facilities will help the Council deliver its new active wellbeing strategy by increasing access to inclusive spaces for physical activity and supporting improved health outcomes across the community.”
