Council proposes introducing parking permits on central Berkhamsted road
A consultation has opened regarding the potential introduction of parking permit requirements for a road in Berkhamsted town centre.
Dacorum Borough Council is seeking residents’ views on introducing a new ‘controlled parking zone’ on Station Road in Berkhamsted.
This zone would be available to permit holders only and is a response to reports of commuters blocking people from parking outside their homes.
‘Resident only’ parking restrictions would be in place between 9am to 10am and 2pm to 3pm on weekdays. The council is also considering the introduction of ‘limited waiting bays’ next to The Crystal Palace pub on weekdays between 8am and 6pm.

Dacorum Borough Council also proposes ‘no waiting at any time’ restrictions on parts of Station Road in a bid to prevent potential obstructions.
It is also seeking to remove the 20 minute limited waiting bay on Gravel Path.
The authority revealed it is hoped that the limited bays would formalise current parking habits between The Crystal Palace and the junction with Castle Street, potentially increasing parking opportunities.
Consultation began on Wednesday and residents have until October 14 to respond. The survey can be found online here.
If approved residents within the zone would be entitled to a maximum of three permits per household. Residents can purchase visitor hours for passes to park within the zone, these are capped at 700 hours per year.
Extra permits may be given to people who use specialist vehicles for work such as glass fitting or breakdown cover. Other vehicle restrictions apply to the permit authorisation.
