Tring School wins planning consent for £30 million rebuild

Work on the new three storey building is due to start this Easter with the new buildings being opened in late 2021.

The circa £30 million scheme, funded by the Government’s Priority Schools Building Programme, is one of the largest of its kind in the UK.

The work will be constructed by Bowmer + Kirkland and will be one of the most sustainably designed schools in the country with additional facilities to support the pastoral care and emotional well-being of the students.

Chair of Governors Anthony Kent commented. “In 2021 we will open a school that will be brilliant for the children, the staff and the whole community of Tring.

"The current buildings are in very poor condition and no longer fit for purpose.

"They are extremely expensive to run and despite our best efforts to be ecologically friendly the old buildings make this impossible.

"Our new school will be highly efficient in every respect including sustainability.”

A local benefactor has also committed to fund expanded sports facilities to encourage more participation in physical activity and exercise.

Tring School is part of the Ridgeway Learning Partnership.

Sue Collings, CEO of RLP, said: “Tring School is currently graded as “Good” by Ofsted and with an “Outstanding” 6th Form, behaviour and personal development.

"With this fantastic new building and modern facilities the quality of our teaching and learning will go from strength to strength.”

The new facilities will include science laboratories, design and technology facilities, art rooms, classrooms, new dining room, sixth form centre, a four court sports hall and an activity studio. All teaching space will benefit from new and high quality ICT equipment.

The front of the new building will be some 65 metres further back from the road, reducing the impact on the community has been a key element in the exterior design and landscaping.

The school will soon be launching The Big School Fit Out fundraising campaign.

The Government pays for the buildings and many of the fixtures but the school needs to raise additional funds to ensure that the new facilities are appropriately furnished and

fully equipped.

The campaign will be inviting the community of Tring to be involved as well as the students and their parents.
