Elizabeth Elliot recently contacted Taylor Wimpey - who did not construct the road originally - and asked the firm to take action to repair the road surface in Berkhamsted, at the extension of Princes Close.

She says she first contacted the company seven years ago to ask them to make repairs to the road.

The development in which Princes Close is placed was constructed by another developer in the 1960s, but now falls under Taylor Wimpey’s umbrella.

Taylor Wimpey says it arranged for essential remedial work to Princes Close to be carried out in 2014 following a request from local residents.

Elizabeth said: "I contacted Taylor Wimpey in 2014 to ask to have the road surface repaired, and was advised to contact TDS, which I did, and I was assured that the works would take place.

"The surface at that time was very poor and gravelly, with lots of potholes which have since merged.

"After contacting Taylor Wimpey again last summer, after a child fell over, an engineer kindly came out to survey the area once again.

"However we are still waiting to receive confirmation of when the required works will take place.

"People with a baby can not drive up as the road was too bumpy, and that the loose stones and potholes made it dangerous to walk on.

"It's dangerous for people who walk on it, and when you're driving it's impossible to miss the potholes, you have to choose which holes you hit.

"The road was dangerous back in 2014, but clearly a worse situation now.

"The neighbourhood has been patient for a long time, but Taylor Wimpey have failed to accept their responsibility.

"We just want to get this dangerous road repaired before someone badly hurts themselves."

Another resident, Karen, added: "Nobody has been able to sort this out in the last 53 years!

"I do believe that Taylor Wimpey knows it is responsible. The residents are definitely not and no way the council will adopt the road in this state!

"If an accident happens now who will be responsible?"

A Taylor Wimpey spokesperson, said: “We understand the frustration of residents regarding the condition of the rear access road Princes Close in Berkhamsted.

“While this development was built in the 1960s, we have committed to reassessing Princes Close to ensure that any essential works are undertaken.

"Following this we will discuss future options for maintenance of the road with local residents.”
