Recycling points across Dacorum could be shut in fly-tipping crackdown
Recycling points across Dacorum could be shut down as part of a crackdown on fly-tipping in the borough
There are currently 21 ‘bring sites’ in the area that can be used by residents for recycling, but there have been fly-tipping problems, with 186 separate incidents reported between April 2024 and July 2025.
A borough council committee will meet today (June 2) to decide on the future of the bring sites, with council officers recommending that they close 10 of them.
Under that option, sites with textile and electrical equipment facilities would be kept, as well as two sites offering mixed dry recycling.

Six sites in Hemel Hempstead (Asda, Bennetts Gate shops, Chaulden/Tudor Rose, Rossgate shops, Leverstock Green shops and Stoneycroft shops) would close under the recommended option, as would two in Berkhamsted (St Johns Well and Water Lane car parks) and one apiece in Tring (The Forge car park) and Kings Langley (The Nap).
Residents near five of the closed sites would be provided with recycling bags or containers, while the other five closures would have “no anticipated impact”.
Councillors could instead choose to close all the bring sites or keep them all open.
Residents were consulted on bring sites over the winter. Half of respondents said that the sites were needed in their area.
However, 40 per cent said they were not happy with them, raising concerns about overflowing bins and fly-tipping.
A council report said the bring sites had originally been introduced to increase recycling rates but that their purpose has now been “superseded by changes in legislation and improvements in the way residents can recycle”.
