VJ Day, (Saturday, August 15) marked 75 years since the end of the Second World War. Yarnbomb Hemel Hempstead started in 2018 and have been supporting the poppy appeal each year with special displays in the town. Chris Allsopp, from Yarnbomb Hemel Hempstead, said: "Last year we decided to try and make some postbox toppers for the poppy appeal which we added to this year for VE Day, Armed Forces Day and VJ Day. We plan to add more and put them out again at the end of October for the Poppy Appeal. People from Hemel love the displays and the comments from the Hemel Hempstead Community and Conversation Facebook page have been lovely for the members to know that all their hard work is appreciated. We had 21 Toppers out for VJ Day. We are all volunteers, retired and working doing as much or as little as they want. We used to meet twice a month for a Knit and Natter group but Covid has put a stop to that but are always looking for new members who can knit or crochet."
