Two Hertfordshire Police buildings were lit up green yesterday (Thursday) in support of emergency services colleagues at St John Ambulance.

Both the Headquarters site in Welwyn Garden City and Hatfield Police Station took part in St John’s Day, an annual celebration that pays tribute to the first-aid charity’s volunteers.

In a further show of solidarity, a number of the constabulary’s cadets met with cadets from St John Ambulance to share their experiences and learn from one another.

The police cadets led a stop and search session which involved roleplays while the St John Ambulance cadets led a first-aid session teaching CPR. The evening ended with games.

Hertfordshire Police Chief Constable Charlie Hall said: “Our emergency service colleagues at St John Ambulance play a vital role in helping to keep the public safe and this event is a great way of showing our gratitude and saying thank you.

“I have no doubt that the past year must have been incredibly tough on the volunteers as they coped with the demands of a deadly pandemic.

"Our officers regularly work together with St John Ambulance volunteers and on their behalf, I would like to say a big thank you for all the help you give us.

"I hope that our police buildings lit up and shining green is a visible reminder of our support.”

Their Group Secretary said: “This link between St John Cadets and the volunteer police cadets in Hertfordshire is the perfect way to celebrate St John Day 2021.

"I would like to thank Hertfordshire Constabulary for the gesture of support.”
