Hemel Hempstead MP thanks staff at St Pauls Care Centre

The Hemel Hempstead MP recently visited a local nursing home to personally thank all the staff who have dedicated their time to caring for others during the coronavirus pandemic.

Sir Mike Penning visited St Pauls Care Centre on Thursday, September 10, to thank a number of team members outside the front of the nursing home, whilst adhering to government guidelines.

The visit was part of St Pauls 'Thank You Thursday's,' a weekly initiative that shows their appreciation to their dedicated team by receiving weekly goodies.

Sir Mike Penning said: “I am thrilled to be invited to St Pauls Care Centre, on their ‘Thank you Thursday’, to thank their staff for their heroic contribution to our community during this pandemic.

"I was greeted with a very warm welcome, it’s such a shame that I wasn’t able to go inside on this occasion.”

The staff indulged in some Krispy Kreme doughnuts, and soft drinks, whilst listening to their MP discuss the serious issues surrounding COVID-19, and the importance of being a keyworker during these unprecedented times.

St Pauls Care Centre, which offers residential, nursing, palliative, and dementia care, was recently rated as 'Outstanding' by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and has a long-serving home manager and deputy manager, who have both been at home for over ten years.

The CQC report states that St Pauls is 'promoting a positive culture that is person-centered, open, inclusive, and empowering, which achieves good outcomes for people.'

Team members have gone above and beyond for the residents to keep them safe, well-cared for and entertained during the lockdown.

The home has implemented new changes to ensure it is a safe and welcoming environment for current and new residents.

Home Manager, Juliana Mensah, said: “We are so grateful for local MP, Sir Mick Penning, for taking the time to thank our staff on ‘Thank you Thursday.’

"We look forward to welcoming him back, so that he can have a full tour of our wonderful care home, when it is safe to do so.”
