And in line with tradition – that the chairman and vice chairman serve for two years – she was re-elected at the annual meeting of the council on Tuesday (May 19).

Nominating Cllr Wyatt-Lowe, leader of the county council Cllr David Williams said that she had been “an outstanding ambassador” for the county.

He said: “The tradition that we have at Hertfordshire County Council that our chairman and vice-chairman serve for two years means that on this occasion I am able to say – with absolute confidence – what an outstanding ambassador Colette has been for the council over the last 12 months.

“I know that the period of lock-down over the last eight weeks has been immensely frustrating in terms of the chairman’s civic role.

“But I am sure we all hope that normal service can be resumed as soon as possible.”

Meanwhile Cllr Dr Susie Gordon, who represents Hatfield East , was also re-elected as the county council’s vice chairman.

Following the voting, Cllr Wyatt-Lowe said that Cllr Gordon had been a wonderful vice chair and that she was looking forward to working together with her for the benefit of Hertfordshire in the next year.

“We are going to have great fun . . . as well as serious endeavour,” she said.
