A church in Hemel Hempstead is reminding residents that everyone is welcome at St John's Church after a photo of the church building was used in a party-political campaign leaflet.

With campaigning under way for the forthcoming County Council Elections, St John's Church, in Boxmoor, has responded to the use of the photograph in the campaign leaflet.

A spokesperson for the church said: "No permission was sought or given for this.

"While the Church is very glad to be recognised as a Boxmoor landmark, we would respectfully point out that St John’s Church must remain strictly apolitical and its image and personnel must not be used in a political context.

"St John’s Church is there for everyone, whatever their political persuasion. All are welcome!"

The next county council election is on Thursday, May 6.
