A care home in Hemel Hempstead organised a special celebration to mark a resident's 100th birthday.

Barbara Adams, received a special card from HM The Queen when she turned 100 on Wednesday, August 26, and The Lodge care home hosted a party for her.

The staff at The Lodge care home, on Broad Street, helped her celebrate her special day with traditional party games - including pass the parcel, musical statues and pin the tail on the donkey.

A spokesperson for The Lodge said: "We had a fun filled afternoon with lots of games and cakes and of course some fizz.

"Mrs Adams was so chuffed she received a birthday card from the Queen it really did put a smile on her face.

"She also had several deliveries of gorgeous flowers. We are so proud here at The Lodge to have such a lady who was a nurse herself.

"Also in this terrible time her family have been fantastic we Facetimed with them on her birthday, they were so happy to see her enjoying her party they even raised a glass and had cake at there house so they could join in.

"We love celebrating the residents here at our home and listening to what they want to do."
