Hand on Heart, a homeless project, has been helping people living on the streets in Hemel Hempstead.

Despite a reduction in the number of homeless people sleeping rough during lockdown, the organisation has been actively operating to provide vital support to those still vulnerable and living on the streets.

In their latest homeless campaign, the organisation, with the help of 35 families - over 120 volunteers - are providing 850 essential packs containing hygiene supplied and clothing to homeless people throughout central London and local areas - including Hemel Hempstead, Watford, St Albans and Harrow.

In Hemel Hempstead, Hand on Heart will supply essential packs to DENS who support people who are homeless in the area.

DENS aims to be the first port of call for people in Dacorum who are facing homelessness, poverty and social exclusion,

Afzal Pradhan BEM, Hand on Heart Project Leader, said: "For whatever reason - difficulty following rules, anti-social behaviour, or struggling living under a roof - there are still many rough sleepers on the streets of London.

"It is during this period more than ever that people who are homeless need help."

Afzal, honoured by Her Majesty the Queen with a BEM in the 2020 New Year's Honours, operates the Hand on Heart project with his wife Asifa, they supply thousands of vital supplies to the homeless.

With the help of several local families, they assemble the essential packs which included hand sanitizers, wet wipes, socks and underwear.

By partnering with other local organisations and with the help of the volunteers, a total of 850 packs are being assembled and will be distributed.

Afzal added: "During the distribution of packs, the words of gratitude and appreciation of the packs are always overwhelming.

"The recipients not only appreciated the packs and items, but they are extremely grateful knowing people out there wanted to help regardless of age, culture or background."
