A man has shared his story of his eight-year 'fight against the law' in a new book.

Pete Bite, 62, was granted a judicial review against the IPCC after an eight year battle to prove police had made false allegations against him and illegally removed him from his Hemel Hempstead home in the middle of the night.

The book, 'I fought the law' - the first Pete has written - details his story and the experience he went through over the eight years.

The Herts Constabulary said the ruling was the result of 'technical breach of the law' but accepted the findings of the court

He said: "I wanted to tell my story, let people know what had happened to me with the police.

"The incident that could have been resolved in a week dragged on for eight years and this book exposes how the police lied to protect a corrupt officer.

"Evidence exposing an admission from Hertfordshire Constabulary that the police knew the officer had fabricated evidence, witnessed by Mike Penning MP and was recorded, proves that Pete was wholly innocent.

“I always wanted to write a book but I never thought it would be about something like this. I am grateful to Mike Penning, who stood by me the whole time and supported me all the way.

"The book is available on Amazon, and the response I have had to it has been positive. A lot of people said they liked the way it was written, and I included letters from the police so readers could see for themselves what happened."

A spokesperson for Hertfordshire Constabulary said: “Mr Mahon took his dispute to the county court some years ago. He was awarded a small amount of compensation by the court for a technical breach of the law.

"The judge hearing the civil claim also had sympathy for the difficult position of the police. We accepted the findings of the court.”

Pete, who no longer lives in Hemel Hempstead, is a singer/songwriter but hopes to write another book in the future.

He added: "I really enjoyed writing this book.

"It's my story and I'm glad I told it, I want to raise awareness of what I went through, and how I had to fight not only the police, but the legal system as well.

"Writing the book brought back a lot of memories but it was therapeutic as well.

"The book was like a release for me, of all the stress I went through over all those years trying to prove my innocence."
