Work to complete the demolition of a former college campus in Kings Langley is to get underway, as part of plans to transform the site into a collection of new homes.

In July, national housebuilder Bellway agreed a deal to purchase the one-acre parcel of land from West Herts College. The site already had outline planning consent for 65 homes.

Detailed plans submitted by Bellway for the development are currently under consideration by Three Rivers District Council.

This will prompt the start of construction work on the former college site, which is located off Home Park Mill Link Road.

The new development will be known as Millworks and has been named after the former Toovey’s Mill that once sat on the Grand Union Canal that runs alongside the development.

The name also has links to the former West Herts College in Kings Langley which specialised in engineering and building services.

Once complete, Millworks will feature a mixture of one and two-bedroom apartments housed within a four-storey building, with allocated parking for residents in a gated car park.

The deal has enabled West Herts College to relocate its students and teachers to a new, state-of-the-art building in Hemel Hempstead, which they moved into earlier this year.

Ali Maruf, managing director of Bellway North London, said: “We are ready to deliver much-needed homes to Kings Langley and help breathe new life into a historical site within the village.

“We have forged a great rapport with West Herts College, having previously acquired its Dacorum Campus in Hemel Hempstead.

"It is currently being transformed into a new development called The Foundry.

“We are looking forward to seeing the first homes at Millworks beginning to take shape over the next few months once the demolition work is complete.

“Millworks has been designed with both first-time buyers and commuters in mind.

"The site is close to Kings Langley station, which has a direct service into Euston in under half an hour and the M25 is easily accessible from the village.

“We are already experiencing a high volume of interest from home-hunters in the area and hope to release the first apartments for sale in early 2021.”

Bellway North London is building four developments, including Millworks, in and around the Hemel Hempstead area. For more information click here.
