Dacorum teenager climbs Mont Blanc to raise thousands for Hertfordshire charity

A teenager from Nettleden has climbed Mont Blanc to raise thousands for Herts Young Homeless.

Charlie Jackson-Moore, 17, took part in a virtual climb of Mont Blanc back in January and last week, he attempted the real thing - climbing 4,810 meters high.

The Berkhamsted School student raised almost £2,000 from his virtual climb and has an online fundraising page for the actual climb, which has already reached Charlie's target of £1,000.

This is the first time that Charlie has attempted anything like this and on Thursday, July 9, Charlie reached the Summit of Mont Blanc after days of grueling climbs. All money raised from Charlie’s climb goes towards supporting vulnerable young people in Hertfordshire.

Mont Blanc is located in the Alps, the massif lies along the French-Italian border and reaches into Switzerland, it is the highest mountain in the Alps and Western Europe.

Charlie said: "It was like climbing up a giant snowy staircase for three days!

"It was challenging but not impossible.

"My dad has always been into climbing and I've always enjoyed it so decided to give it a go.

"We have family friends that work for the charity so that's how I found out about it and what they do.

"They do a lot of work to help people around Hemel Hempstead and it was good to see how the money I was raising was helping people.

"I liked that I could see the impact in the area around me.

"The fundraising page is still open so if anyone would like to donate and support the charity that would help a lot."

Herts Young Homeless provides services to support vulnerable people in Hertfordshire, it's focus is on preventing homelessness - from education in schools and family mediation through to supporting 16-24 year olds in their first homes or caring for adults of all ages who have mental health issues and housing needs.

The services aim to empower young people to be able to deal with the difficult situations in their lives, giving them the ability and confidence to ‘do it themselves’ and ultimately find stability.
