Care home residents send out 100 'Thank You' rainbows to Hemel Hempstead community

Residents at a Hemel Hempstead care home have painted 100 rainbows and sent them out as a special ‘thank you’ to individuals and organisations in the community who have supported them this year.

The rainbows, designed to be hung on Christmas trees, were painted by the residents at Water Mill House with help from the care team.

Norma Blacker, 91, lives at Water Mill House, she said: “We enjoyed painting the rainbows and it was a nice chance to give thanks to all the heroes in our community that have worked incredibly hard throughout the year and have kept going even when the times were tough.”

One recipient of a rainbow was the home’s garden landscaper, James Elliott. James has worked tirelessly to keep the gardens looking good, even in terrible weather.

He said: “Thank you so much I will hang it on my tree at the very top.”

Rainbows were also sent to the home’s postman who has brightened their days throughout, always helpful and with a smile on his face.

Other recipients included David Rogers, son of resident Gina Rogers, who organised a visit from an ice cream van and some the residents of the block of flats opposite the home, who sent numerous gifts.

Home manager, Victoria Forsythe said: “We were overwhelmed by the kindness shown by our community during this challenging year.

"So, it’s been a real labour of love for our residents and staff to give back to all of those who have supported us so wonderfully.”
