Sewing scrubs for health care workers

A craft group in Berkhamsted has made over 100 scrub sets and over 2,000 bags for health care workers during the coronavirus pandemic.

South East Crafts Causes, based in Berkhamsted, have been sewing scrubs and scrub bags for hospital staff, and have already taken some to Luton and Dunstable University Hospital, Stoke Mandeville Hospital and Watford General Hospital, they have also given some to local care homes.

The group now over 1.5k members on our Facebook group and a core group of over 150 seamstresses helping us meet our current target of sewing 1000 scrub sets plus thousands of other non scrub items such as scrub hats and bags which will all help to keep health care workers safer.

Colleen Duggan, one of the group members, said: "It is going really well, everyone has been amazing and are all working really hard to get the scrubs made.

"We have also teamed up with local garment technicians and Stylex factory in Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire who have helped develop our scrub pattern and precut our fabric for free to help ensure we get our donations to where its needed faster.

"We have already donated 103 scrub sets to local hospitals and care homes. We are presently sewing over 620 more scrub sets.

"These will be distributed to our named care homes and hospitals. in the next few days.

"In order to meet our target of 1000 scrub sets we need to fundraise more money for fabric and trimmings.

"At the moment we are trying to source fabric for the scrubs because our supplier has run out of the colour material we have been using

"We have had such positive feedback, we want to thank everyone that has donated and helped, it has been a great show of community spirit."
