Age UK Dacorum has received a donation from the Amazon fulfilment centre in Hemel Hempstead to help them support and protect the elderly in Dacorum.

The charity works across Hertfordshire to support and protect vulnerable, elderly members of the community.

Throughout lockdown, the charity has been offering additional services including an extended befriending service, telephone support, activity packs, shopping, bereavement care and for the most vulnerable in the community a personal assistant service.

Age UK Dacorum plans to use the £1,000 donation towards some of the new projects which are being developed, including an information, equipment and technology service, which involves older people being able to borrow a laptop or tablet to help them connect to family and friends, helping to reduce loneliness and isolation.

Mark Keeney, site leader at Amazon in Hemel Hempstead, said: “We are thankful that Age UK Dacorum provides such vital support services for the elderly community in Hertfordshire.

"With this donation, we want to support the charity’s staff and volunteers, who have gone above and beyond the call of duty to extend their care during lockdown.”

David Pearce, from Age UK Dacorum, said: “On behalf of myself and the rest of the team at Age UK Dacorum, I want to say a big thank you to Mark and the team from Amazon in Hemel Hempstead. We could not continue our work without donations like this.”

This donation forms part of the ‘Amazon In The Community’ programme, whereby the company supports the communities around its operating locations across the UK.

Community donations are one of a number of ways in which Amazon is supporting communities across the UK during COVID-19.

Amazon is providing disadvantaged students with online STEM courses as well as teaming up with charity partner Magic Breakfast and delivering over 2.5 million healthy breakfasts to families around the UK.
