Paul Gurney and Ben Baldwin are hosting a fancy dress football match at Hemel Hempstead Town FC this Sunday from 1pm to raise money for the Hospice of St Francis, which cared for Paul’s mum before her death.

Paul, director at Hemel Hempstead-based recruitment firm Novo, said: “The Hospice looked after my Mum, who Ben knew very well, on two occasions until she peacefully passed away there in January this year.

“We would like to thank the Hospice for the magnificent care they provided in a time when we needed it the most. My friends and family will be raising as much money as possible to ensure that they can keep providing the very best of care to those who need it the most.”

The duo say they would like to thank Hemel Town FC, Nisa Stores at Crabtree Lane and to Peter Spivey for their support of the event, and to everyone who has donated to the cause so far.

The friends will also be undertaking a 145 mile walk of the Grand Union Canal from September 12 to 16, starting in Birmingham and finishing in London.
