That’s because its latest console the Wii U, which was branded a flop as it struggled to keep pace with the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, is enjoying something of a resurgence after really strong sales figures over the festive period.

And there’s good reason why, the line-up of games that are already out and on their way have us licking our lips for a nostalgic feast.

Yes Wii U is trailing the PS4 and Xbox One, but 2015 may well be the year that all turns around.

Not just because it’s a smart system that does something a bit different to the others but it already has a stable of fantastic games including Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros.

With its chest firmly puffed out after a Christmas to remember, Nintendo is driving forwards, steadily releasing great games.

A new Legend of Zelda is on its way and could easily be the biggest Wii U game of 2015.

It is enough to excite both hardcore Zelda fans and complete newcomers to the series. Game footage at E3 confirmed that Hyrule has never looked more beautiful.

Another huge game is Mario Maker. A genius idea which sees the gamer design and make the levels. You can switch between classic 2D NES mode and newer 3D visuals. Nintendo says “the only limit is your imagination!”

It’s been nearly a decade since the last Star Fox game, Star Fox Command on the DS. But Fox McCloud is back to quench the fans’ thirst for a new title.

There is a host of other titles on the way but one of the most interesting is Splatoon, which looks to be one of the most insane games Nintendo has released for quite some time.

It is a fun, family-friendly solution to the typical shooting games littering the other consoles. Your ammo is ink and paint and you claim territory by squirting bright colours all over the place, which you can travel through to other parts of the map.

It seems the Wii U has arrived... finally.
