New government job for Hemel MP Mike Penning

Hemel MP Mike Penning was set to take up a new ministerial role as the
Gazette went to press last night.

The Conservative politician, who was elected for a third term in last week’s general election, was
expected to be named as minister of police and criminal justice.

He told the Gazette: “Coming from a security background I’m thrilled to be given this job, and I also have an appreciation of the work the police do. The role will also involve working with forces veterans.”
Over the last five years Mr Penning has held a number of government briefs,
covering areas as diverse as policing, Northern
Ireland and the disabled. Before his political career he served in the Army as a Grenadier Guardsman, with tours including
Germany and Northern Ireland.
