MP pays tribute to former Hemel Tory Cecil Parkinson
His vice-chairman was another future leading Conservative, Norman Tebbit.
Mr Parkinson won election to Parliament in Enfield in 1970 and went on to become one of the leading names in the Conservative Party as chairman of the party. He played a key role as Margaret Thatcher won the 1983 election and served as Secretary of State for Energy and Secretary of State for Transport, before being laid low by a sex scandal.

“He went on to represent the nearby constituency of Hertsmere, but he maintained his links with the Hemel Hempstead constituency through membership of Ashridge Golf Club. He was always happy to offer his support.
“I send my condolences to his family and they are in my thoughts and prayers today.”
