Major train delays after overhead lines torn near Leighton

Major delays to train services caused by torn overhead lines are set to continue well into the evening rush hour.

London Midlands trains are currently running to less than 50 per cent of usual capacity because of the closure of two train tracks.

And it is believed the disruption will continue for hours yet.

A London Midland spokesman said: “Just after 9am the freight train from Crewe to Felixstowe reported the overhead lines were down on Ledburn junction area so trains came to a stand.

“There are four tracks in that area, two fast and two slow.

“We’ve lost the two fast lanes and that does mean there will be delays and cancellations until Network Rail can repair the overhead lines.”

Network Rail have yet to confirm when the overhead lined will be fixed. Affected London Midland passengers are advised to claim a refund on their Delay Repay scheme.
