James May spotted in Hemel town centre... in the Batmobile

Former Top Gear co-presenter James May paid a flying visit to Hemel Hempstead this morning – in the Batmobile.

The petrol head was negotiating the infamous Magic Roundabout in the distinctive vehicle from the 1960s series starring Adam West.

The stunt was part of filming for his BBC 2 show James May’s Cars Of The People.

Hemel Hempstead resident Katy Holliss, 29, was lucky enough to collar the TV star for a photo.

She said: “My partner Daniel and I were walking down Lawn Lawn and we stopped to have a chat with James about his new programme.

“He is a really down-to-earth guy and a nice person.

“They were filming him getting a parking ticket and getting chased by police.”

During a break from filming Mr May, who told Top Gear producers in April that he would not continue to present the show following Jeremy Clarkson’s dismissal, was seen to tuck into a packet of Walkers’ chicken-flavour crisps.
