Is there something in the water? Another 100 year old joins borough’s centenarian club

Peggie Cooper of King Street, Tring turned 100 years old on Sunday, having been born early into the First World War on January 25, 1915.

Peggie is a familiar face in Tring, as she was married to Frank Cooper who was the pharmacist in the town for 30 years.

She still goes to church and although cannot walk as far as she could, she only gave up delivering free papers around the flats in The Furlong, where now she lives, last year.

Peggie has been a member of the Mother’s Union for 60 years, and, according to son Richard, is very proud of the fact that she takes absolutely no medication at all.

Richard, who lives in Marsworth, said: “My mother is known by just about everyone in the town. She is still very independent and has been very excited about her ‘big one’ coming up.”

Peggie celebrated her birthday with a big lunch and a tea party with family and friends at The Furlong, with town mayor Stephen Hearn even attending in the afternoon. She also received her message from the Queen.
