Holy half marathon! Is he batty?

A Kings Langley man is running a half marathon on May 28 '“ dressed as Batman.

Dominic Bellman, aged 32, will run 12 miles from Hammersmith to Comic Con, the UK’s modern pop culture event, at London’s Excel, wearing a full replica Christian Bale-era Batman costume.

Our hero will then stay in full costume, pick up his bucket, and spend the day collecting for Cancer Research UK.

Dominic began to build his own Batman suit in March, when he also began his preparation for the marathon.

The suit is made up of Kevlar-reinforced leather and the cowl is made from rubber.

Dominic, a support worker for Hemel Hempsted-based care agency Care4u2day, said: “Cancer has taken many loved ones from my me over the years, and I’m tired of it.

“I hate cancer because it takes not just people’s lives, but it also takes everything that made that person who they were.

“All in all, I’ll probably be in the Batsuit for 10 to 12 hours, and the run is probably the easy bit – there are upwards of 10,000 people at Comic Con.”

Dominic, who has already raised £1,480 since announcing the event this month, will be supported on the run by friends carrying water, as the belt on his Batman costume does not hold anything, and filming him on their phones.

He hopes footage of his run will be edited and broadcast at Comic Con throughout the day.
