Hemel becoming a ‘more adulterous’ town

The figure – which equates to 0.75 of the town’s population – puts Hemel in 68th out of 140 locations, according to IllicitEncounters.com, a ‘married dating’ website which has mapped where its 985,000 UK members live.

It is a rise from 523 the previous year.

Those straying in neighbouring locations include 257 in Tring, 346 in Berkhamsted. 569 in Aylesbury 494 in Buckingham, 722 in Milton Keynes, 362 in Wendover, 142 in Princes Risborough and 686 in Wycombe.

Beeston is the most unfaithful town in the UK with 2.54% of the population of the town having an affair.

Livingston is the most adulterous town in Scotland and second most adulterous town in the UK with 2.03% of the population straying, while Craigavon in Northern Ireland is the most faithful with only 0.04% of the population having affairs.

Psychologist Lucy Redford said: “Discretion is usually the main priority in extra-marital affairs. If secrecy wasn’t important, the individual would seek a divorce before an affair.

“Oftentimes when passion has left a relationship, but people don’t want to fracture their home status or disrupt a family unit, and they’re not willing to compromise their sex lives, an affair becomes tempting for their situation.”

The website says it provides a ‘meeting place for like-minded married and attached people’.

“Our members have one thing in common - they are all looking for a little romance outside their current relationship. Whether that’s the occasional bit of flirtatious chat, a regular coffee date, or a full-blown affair, that’s up to them.”
