Health boss visits hospital A&E

The Tory MP, who works as a junior minister with the title parliamentary under-­secretary for care and quality, also visited the children’s wards.

Professor Steve Barnett, chairman of the West Herts Hospitals Trust, said: “We were delighted to welcome the minister to Watford General Hospital to demonstrate some of the many improvements we have made since our Care Quality Commission inspection last year and for him to meet the staff whose care was noted as outstanding in children’s services. 

“We had a good opportunity to talk about our plans to improve the environment for patients and staff and to show the Minister why this is so important for our hospitals.”

Mr Gummer said: “Having met staff and patients, I’ve been encouraged by how the Trust is responding to the CQC’s recent inspection report.

”Every patient in West Hertfordshire rightly expects the best possible quality of care and services. Clearly there is still a great deal of work to be done. So it is crucial that the Trust continues to work closely with regulators and take advantage of the support available to put in place the necessary improvements.”
