Head teacher accepts challenge to turn around Cavendish School's fortunes

A school ranked '˜well below average' for its GCSE results has appointed a new executive headteacher to try and turn its fortunes around.

A school ranked ‘well below average’ for its GCSE results has appointed a new executive headteacher to try and turn its fortunes around.

The Cavendish School, which also ‘requires improvement’ according to its latest Ofsted report, has challenged Kings Langley School head teacher Gary Lewis with the task of transforming the school.

Mr Lewis will effectively be the head teacher of both schools while Cavendish’s current head teacher, Sarah Lansley, remains on sick leave.

Kings Langley is rated as a ‘good’ school by Ofsted.

And Mr Lewis is adamant that the school will improve, and has already sent a letter out to parents explaining the challenges ahead.

Mr Lewis, who took on his new role last Wednesday, told the Gazette: “Clearly the school has been having some challenges recently.

“But I have to say that I have been here for a week and I have been absolutey impressed by what I’ve seen.

“I read the riot act to the students, and they have responded incredibly positively straight away.

“I am delighted that the job of helping Sarah raise standards isn’t as big as I had maybe feared. I have no doubt at all that we will see signifant improvements.”

One parent said: “The governors needed a good shake up as they have sat back and watched the school fail over the last two years.”
