HCSE results: Berkhamsted School

There has been a steady improvement at Berkhamsted, with the percentage of passes at the top grade going from 31.8 per cent in 2012, 34 per cent a year later, and 36.6 per cent 12 months ago.

And the school also celebrated a slight increase in the proportion of A*-C grades, which now reached 98.7 per cent.

Acting principal Michael Bond said: “The GCSE results are outstanding by every measure, but perhaps most pleasing of all is the significant (and year-on-year) increase in A* grades achieved since 2012, which is testament to the commitment and ambition of both pupils and staff.”

14 pupils earned a full house of 10 A*s. Congratulations go to Sophie Beard, Jessica Bennett, Alexandra Burgar, Olivia Currie, Isla Harrison, Lucy Roberts, Cara Rolland and Nicole Walmsley from Berkhamsted Girls, and Henry Cotton, Harry Evans, George Hetherington, Samuel Howell, Benjamin Miles and Charles Nicholls from Berkhamsted Boys, for achieving a flawless set of grades.

While 35 pupils secured at least eight A* grades, often considered the platform from which Oxbridge applications can be launched, the school also highlighted a number of high-achievers who have also turned their talents beyond the academic field.

These include Charlie Nicholls, who earned (10 A*s and an A, while also playing cricket for Middlesex.

As well as eight A* and two A grades, Coco Day is a gifted athlete and dancer who has achieved at a national level in athletics while also completing her Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award this year.

Isabelle Docherty and Heather Dunmall collected 17 A* grades between them, while both being selected for the England Talent Pathway for shooting.

And Henry Cotton, with his 10 A*s and an A has also shown his talents across the board, excelling in music and representing the school at A team level in cricket and rugby.
