Free fixing day will promote make do and mend ethos

olunteer repairers will be on hand to fix toys, bikes, furniture and other goods during a community repair day.

It is part of the Repair Shed - a new project under Community Action Dacorum that aims to reduce waste.

On Saturday, February 28 at Hemel Food Garden, in Two Waters Road, handymen will assess and, if possible fix, broken goods.

Repair Shed manager Chris Lee said: “With money short and landfill sites overflowing, the importance of changing attitudes to consumption and waste - and repairing rather than replacing - has never been greater. It’s also about sharing skills - we want people to go away knowing more about repairing items than when they arrived.”

Anyone with something that needs mending including, bikes, toys, clothes, tools and small items of furniture and electrical equipment, can bring them along between 10.30am and 2.30pm.

The service is free but advanced online booking is required by visiting CommunityRepairDay.eventbrite.co.uk.

If an item requires major repair, organisers will direct the owner to professionals.
